Many people who purchase a Chromebook are looking for a change from the traditional Windows, however is the Chrome OS looking too much like Windows? When the Chromebook was originally released, it had a more bare bone approach to other competition operating systems such as Microsoft Windows or Mac. The most recent update of Chrome (release 19) has drastically changed how the chromebook looks and the final product has the OS looking more and more like Windows 7. This has many people asking does the Chrome OS look too much like Windows. It is true that the Aura update has drastically changed how the Chrome OS looks, but is this a bad thing? The answer in my opinion is no. The new shortcuts making navigating the internet and using your Google laptop 100 times easier than before.

Also, the Google “shelf” which lets you place icons in the bottom left hand corner of the screen was longer overdue and allows you to open programs much quicker. Another much needed change was support for an additional monitor. This allows the user to hook up an external monitor to their laptop for an additional display or to mirror it if you were looking to use a larger monitor. Also, the user experience has been much improved and simplified with the new changes. The new changes also allow for a window manager similar to the one Windows has. The Chrome OS was originally marketed as being fast, simple, yet very secure. The new update while ads a little bit of complexity, it overall makes the process much easier to use.

All in all, the inexperienced computer users are the ones who will most likely benefit from the new Chrome OS update. Aura is much easier to use and now anyone who is used to Windows or Mac OS will be able to jump right in and start using their chromebook. While the new update makes Chrome look much more like Windows, this is for the best and the ones who will benefit the most are the user base. Doing tasks from a desktop simply fee much better than using the Chrome browser and I applaud Google with their new set of changes. While the Google OS is the newcomer when it comes to the operating system market, Chrome is taking steps in the right direction and is not that far off from perfection.

Chrome Aura Interface Features Google Shelf: The Google shelf is a bar which comes with a set of commonly used programs pinned to the bottom left hand of the screen. The interface add on was a huge addition for chromebook users and chrome operating system looks like it will become a juggernaut in the not so near future.

Chrome Aura Interface Features

Google Shelf: The Google shelf is a bar which comes with a set of commonly used programs pinned to the bottom left hand of the screen. These icons include chrome, Gmail, Google plus, Youtube, and Google docs. Of course, you can add your own icons there as well similar to the bar in the center of the screen in the MAC OS. When you want to use the chrome browser, you will also have the option to minimize the shelf or keep it displayed at all times. Personally, having the shelf always displayed is my preference but I see how it could annoy others.

Custom Wallpaper: A very sought out feature that was long overdue is now available is the ability to change your home screen wallpaper and make it whichever picture you prefer. Took an amazing photograph last time you were at the beach? Setup the bad boy by setting it as the default desktop photo. Another awesome feature is that every day you log onto your computer you will have the option to download a brand new beautiful background. While not being the most important feature, it is a nice touch to show that while the chromebook may be a finished project, there will always be nice new features to users.

Updated Media Player: The new media player that comes with aura is much improved and now includes desktop notifications (artist name and title of song are now displayed in the bottom of the screen.)

The Chrome Aura interface updated tried to give Chromebook users a more desktop feel and they did an excellent job. Between the efficient Google shelf, custom wallpapers, and the excellent new media player the Aura interface update can be claimed as a huge success. While the chrome OS still has several steps to go, the aura update is a great step in the right direction and hopefully future updates will be as powerful as this one.

Well with all this drive that we have to be free and mobile, one must always be prepared for any situation that may arise while on the fly. One such thing that seems to always want to follow us around, and is that ever so present tether that brings us back to reality in our finest moments of escape: WORK.

So we succeed in coming up with things that allow us a little more of that freedom we seek while still allowing us to get things done, and keep our lives in order. Initially years had gone by while you were forced to work at your desk because that is the only place your 400 pound computer could get power. But as things have progressed and we have gained insight into computer technology you now only need carry a small personal sized computer that fits comfortably upon your lap. Just as google’s new Chromebook does so well.

With its small frame perfect for transportation and its exceedingly light weight, its easy to see why one would choose such a machine while on the go, yet still looking to keep in touch. A lot of computers require alot of hard drive space or external drives to store all of your most important information. Not the Chromebook! the Google laptop uses Google cloud which is an online storage system for information. It can easily be synced to any of your Google clound ready devices and will share the information between all of them! Another great thing about this netbook is the battery life. Older laptops have had problems with battery life in the past, But the Chrome laptop has an all day battery life allowing for optimal usage. It is also available with a built in 3G for when you are away from a wifi location. But probably the best thing about the google chromebook is its ability for app usage.

Chromebook has thousands of web based apps right at your figertips and just waiting to be tried out!

Whether you are looking for a mobile netbook to get some quick emails off for work, or your just interested in browsing the web and playing games, the Google laptop has a little something for everyone!

Since then, a few photographs have been released and the laptop looks like a beauty.

Sony Chromebook Estimated Details and Information:

11.6 inch Screen: As with all chromebooks, the Sony version will have a small screen that is made to be portable. The Sony Chromebook will be perfect for taking on road trips and other vacations as it can easily be put in a backpack for easy access.

Powerful 1.2 GHz Processor With 1GB of Ram: Even though the Sony Chromebook is meant to be portable, the device does pack a punch. The powerful processor can deliver excellent looking videos and photographs and is should browse the web with no problems. Also, the Sony Google laptop will have no problem playing any of the games on the Android market and even the most graphic extensive programs.

16 GB of Storage: While 16 gigabytes of storage space may seem like a small amount, well the answer is yes that is a small amount. What many may not know is this is because Google Chromebooks fully utilize cloud storage and this means that having a large hard drive is not as important as it once was. This is a huge benefit to the manufacturing of the laptops as it makes the device much more portable, lightweight, and even cuts down the total cost of the laptop. Cloud storage is a way to store data over the internet and allows you to access your data on any computer that is hooked up to the internet. Of course, if you like you can always purchase a portable hard drive for under $100 and plug it into the usb port of the Chromebook.

8 Hour Battery Life: Another huge selling point for the Sony Chromebook is the 8 hour battery life. Any college student knows that being on campus and having your laptop die can be a big problem. The next time you meet with your study group and have no computer because the battery died you will be cursing your laptop and wished you had a Chromebook with its large battery life. 8 Hours is a large amount of time that should please even the most critical laptop users.
Black and White: It looks as if there will for sure be a black color for the Sony Chromebook, however, there has also been leaked pictures of a new white version to be released as well.

The Sony Chromebook looks like it is going to set the bar for all of google laptops. The Sony Chromebook looks like it will be the most powerful Chrome laptop to date and with a $300 to $400 price range, should be within most people’s budget.

Google still relies heavily on its revenue from its search engine, and has done little over the years to diversify it. Now in a market already dominated by Macbooks and iMacs, the Chrome laptops are at best struggling to create a niche for themselves.
While the $399 Chromebook is priced much lower that the Apple’s iPad which costs $500, it still remains to be seen whether the Chromebook will make any dent in the Apple sales. While Apple has consistently shown the ability to innovate and create better products to improve market share, Google laptops would really have to be improved upon before they can beat the competition.

However, it would be wrong to speculate that the Chromebook would not stand anywhere in competition, because Google is still a very large company and the Chrome Laptops are still in their infancy. The Chromebook has already gained much more popularity than the Windows laptops and has seemingly ushered in a new era for computing devices. They have a long way to go and with the ever evolving technologies, who knows what tomorrow will bring for the Chromebook. For now though, it seems that Google has created yet another project that is yet to deliver what it promised – both to the buyers and the investors.

Perhaps in the near future, Google may improve the cloud computing core of the Chromebook and add certain new innovations to make the Chromebook lighter, easier to carry and appealing to the young; it would be able to overtake the challenges that Apple’s many innovative products are throwing its way.

The one thing that has made Google so popular is its open source developing environment. Google is easily the largest contributor to the Open Source community. Despite its presence, it has never been able to rival Microsoft – the largest organization on the computer technologies industry. This is mainly due to the fact that Microsoft rules the personal computing domain through its Windows Operating system. However, all this is gradually changing with Google entering the OS domain – with innovation, of course. The Google Chromebook is finally out in the market, which not only promises to take over loyal Windows users but also can bring in new users altogether – based on its relevance to the modern day needs.

The Chromebook runs on Chrome OS – currently the open Source answer to Microsoft. Although UNIX and Linux have been there for long, the Google laptop OS is different in the sense that it does not depend on the hardware requirements and can run without much technical glitches. The Chromebook runs faster than any other personal machine on earth and can do very much everything that the latest Windows machine can do.

What sets the Chrome laptop apart is that its OS is based on only a browser. Everything that we need to do would happen through apps on the browser. Therefore there would be no need to invest on hardware at all. The Google laptop can start up within 8 seconds – a record that cannot be touched! Moreover, the storage is virtually unlimited, considering the fact that the storage is mainly on the Cloud – another next-gen feature exploited by Google in its Chromebook.

While UNIX and Linux were technically superior to the Microsoft OS, it was defeated on one front – superior graphics and user interface. Chrome OS has the Linux kernel – which makes its insulated to any virus attacks, while the UI of Google is always a step ahead of others. As a result, Chrome laptop users are enjoying an advantage of sorts – getting the best of everything.

The open source community has reasons to rejoice – considering the fact that the Google laptop could be the commercial success that is the biggest requirement for the community.

Google has been quick enough to understand this choice, and thus it has slowly become the largest and the most important contributor to the Android Mobile platform – which is the OS used by most of the smart phone and tablet users.

Google has always been at the forefront of the latest technologies. Starting out from a search engine, it has now pioneered at everything that we do on the Internet. The secret behind its success is that it has always been able to analyze the choice of Internet users and adjusted itself accordingly. Today, the choice of Internet users influence the way new devices are designed. The smart phones and tablets are living examples to the fact. Google has been quick enough to understand this choice, and thus it has slowly become the largest and the most important contributor to the Android Mobile platform – which is the OS used by most of the smart phone and tablet users.

This is not where Google has stopped. Based on its research on user preferences, it has come up with an innovation that has the potential to change the way we perceive devices – the Chromebook. The Chromebook, which also commonly referred to as the Google laptop is a rival of the traditional operating system of Microsoft – the Windows. However, it is very much different from the Windows platform, considering the fact that it’s only component is the Chrome browser. The Chrome laptop works on the Internet – as Google believes most of the work that a person does on the computer Internet-related. Secondly, it does not require much space, as most of the data is securely stored on the Cloud – which saves a lot of space, and also brings in the idea of unlimited space.

HTC is going to be part of the cloud

Samsung, Sony and Acer are already part of the campaign and have brought out their own versions of the Chrome laptop, which have been in great demand. The latest organization which is almost certain to join in is HTC. HTC is a well-known organization which mainly deals with mobile phones and tablets. It has launched several Android phones and is a favorite among smart phone users worldwide. However, it would venture out in a new domain altogether, with another huge innovation – a dual operating system that includes both the Android and the Chrome OS.

HTC would soon come up with a winner – that can provide the mobility and smoothness of the Android system, and the cloud-centric, app-based Chrome OS in one single device – the HTC Chrome laptop. While the modalities are being worked out, it can be easily guessed that its future users would be in for a treat as they would be able to sync up data between their phones, chromebooks and other devices almost seamlessly. The HTC Google laptop would no longer be just another laptop – it would become a means to centrally control your web profile, with the help of the ever-expanding Google!

Quite recently the “Palo Alto City Library” devised a new set of limited programs by which its patrons are allowed to borrow Chromebook devices having Google Chrome as their operating system. Other libraries like “Multnomah County Library” of Portland are also planning to have similar programs.

The advantage of having Google laptop is that they are light in weight and can easily be carried from place to place. Laptops nowadays are also easy to be taken as loan and they are getting cheaper day by day. Chromebooks are easy to use too. These Google laptops are constantly upgraded with the latest updates of Google and are thus more useful and handy.

There has been a concern among people who are not well acquainted with the new Chromebook, that it might not be effective enough when one is not online. However, Google has taken care of the situation, as everything on the Google laptop can be accessed offline, and would be automatically synched up whenever it is next connected to the Internet. It is true that Chrome laptops are dependent on the Internet and Cloud in specific, but it can operate efficiently without the Internet as well.

The “Missouri River Regional Library” switched over to Google Apps from Microsoft Office for their education. Google applications are also being used by the abovementioned institutions. The county calculated the estimated save to be around six hundred thousand dollars each year. Several other governments have switched to Google Apps in the last few years.

However, the “Los Angeles Public Library” is till date the largest organization to switch to Google and its applications. The library now exclusively uses Gmail; Google Docs are used by the employees of the library although they still provide you with the option to use MS Word. The majority of the employees of the Los Angeles city are using Google Apps as well. Google released the “Google Apps for Government” which will respond and fulfill the high security needs of the departments in the recent future.

What about the Word Processing in the Chrome Laptop?

There is a popular misconception that word processing, which is a stronghold of systems running on the Microsoft operating systems, is not possible in Google Apps. Google Docs – the first online word processing suite, is a very useful tool in this regard as it can work on almost any file extension and perform word processing on them.

This misconception has led many organizations to completely own the Chrome laptop drive and its apps, but it is slowly changing considering the fact that Google has tied up with central organizations and is reaching out the general public to educate them about the new kind of laptop.
